    Multi-piece Kriegsflagge

Open question to anyone: How common is a foreign made Kriegsflagge? I'd like to have an example showing individual piece construction but I don't see them around. Should I jump on the first chance I get or wait until the "right one" pops up? Thanks.

    Hello KL:
IMO non-German made RKF's are quite rare, as very few in number survived
WW2. And thus my "The rarest" ranking of same in WAF "wmtf" t=427262.

        Here's my Mare Island RKF.

If any other members have sewn flags I would love to see some more pics.

Your flag is The same flag as the one The Ruptured Duck has for sale at present.

            OFW,
Do you have a New York RKF? If you do what are the markings on yours?

One more of the Mare Island...

The markings are different and I think the cross is a bit fatter.

Hey guys thanks for all the responses. Talk about convenient timing! The flag from Bill's site is on it's way to me now and I will let you know when I get it. It is missing the rope hoist but I am far more interested in studying the overall design construction so I'm looking forward to seeing it. Thanks again.

Good thing that you ordered it, I was thinking of getting it.

It could be the RKF made in the New York Navy yard. If it is it was way under priced.

The flag just arrived and it looks pretty cool. I'll get some photos posted as soon as I can; busy time of year for me. I did manage to count the pieces comprising the design and, not including the hoist and reinforcement patches, I came up with 67!

I had never thought to count the pieces of my flag. Was there any strange color thread used in your flag?

The US made RKFs are very cool, and rare as OFW said. But theoretically every US Naval ship carried one.

I had a Chicago Flag Co. made party flag. These flags were all "in common use" for 6 years before the war started. Then I imagine many were ceremoniously destroyed.

Here is a pic of some of the earlier flags made at the US Navy yards in teh 1900s. Note the Imperial German one front & center.

That Imperial eagle must have been a fun one if it is all pieces.

Just curious, why would ships carry these?

                              Thanks!
