    GI signed party flag

Hi Guys, thought i would post the only small flag in my collection. Its a 10ft by 4ft party flag, complete with original snap clips. Its 2 sided, with seperatly applied centre discs with printed swaz. Its shows quite a few stains and a few holes. It has been signed by 14 GIs, with the names of 14 places of importance to them including Aachen, Julich, Duren, Euskirchen, Arhweiller, Mayen, Kruft, Coblenz (should be spelt "Koblenz", Rhine river, Autobahn HY, Montear, Ailenchen, Adenau. You can really smell the history with these GI signed flags. Enjoy Johnno.

          Johnno:
Very nice piece of history - bravo! "Bloody Aachen" was
the first book of choice I read back when I was a kid. And the
very first city of the Reich to fall to the Allies in the west, as I
recall from way back then. Maybe time to reread it again.
          ..

PS/ autumn of 1944 - the US First Army was held at bay for two
months by the fanatical resistance of the Wehrmacht and the local
citizens of Aachen, who refused to acknowledge the Nazi creed, and
so chose to fight it out with 'friend' and foe alike. "Bloody Aachen"
book was published in 1962 by Charles Whiting.
          I read it in 1964.

OFW, thanks very much for the kind words and detailed info. Charles Whiting is one of my favorite authors too. Yes never think of Aachen with out the words "Bloody Aachen" indeed. Was defended tooth and nail. Another reason i like this flag so much. Regards, Johnno.
