    Imperial Standarte with Swaz

Hi Guys, anyone ever see an Imperial Standarte with a swatstika?
The 9 and 2 were removed in the date 1923, which would be for the Munich Putsch?
    Any ideas?
    Thank You.
    Regards,
    Gary

Why were the periods added after 1. and 3. ???
What are the coats of arms?
The statue looks familiar - what is it?
          NT ?
          looks interesting!

Gary, I think it is from a German Burschenschaft (students organization / fraternity)!

              http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burschenschaft

PS: Notice the Silesian eagle in the coat of arms! It is interesting for the question, where is it from!

DB-trodden fraternity prohibited by Nazis ???

Ditto that. But since the DB-trodden fraternity
was prohibited by the Nazi Party, it seems unlikely
that the odd looking swastika was a
                period change.

                  Thank You Serg and OFW.
So, you think the swatstika was added later?
But why?....it doesn't increase the vakue much...would it?..if period done?
                  Regards,
                  Gary

                    Hello Gary:
Hard to say exactly when and why this flag
was modified. The removed 1923 date is IMO
when the flag was made, and if the swastika
was original (stitching & same thread wise)
it would be more valuable being done in 1923,
the year of the 1st Party Day Rally & the Putsch
when NSDAP membership was low & localized.
So the removed/added embroidery are enigmas,
IMO done to give the flag a nazi association and
greater collecting value, but likewise to cover up
that this fraternity may have not actually had any
                    such members in 1923.

                        Wonderful banner.

The statue is the 'Germania' in Munich.

The date (1st March 1862) would appear to be the founding date of the student fraternity. The other removed numbers are a puzzle.

The swastika has nothing to do with the Nazis on this occasion ............ just a happy coincidence.

The emblem was widely used at that time ........... and in WW1.

Here's exactly the same type (with green wreath and blue ribbon) on Werner Voss' plane. Maybe he was a former member of this fraternity?

Thank You Robin, very interesting, would be nice if it was Voss's Fraternity, but probably impossible to say for sure.
