Can anyone identify this banner, or rather it's purpose? Both top and bottom edges appear to have had a series of suspension rings attached at some time. Early swastika? Perhaps for attachment to a pole whilst marching? Recovered I am told at Kiel by a Royal Navy Officer. Regards, Simon

      Hello lanners55:
Interesting banner, appears to have been nailed
to wood poles on both sides, with hand holding
slots added so it could maybe be directed towards
an aircraft from a lifeboat crew. But just a guess.

I have one similar ...it has the leather...cut out section should i say trimmed in leather to keep it strong and my theory it may have been to go around an antennae ..possibly on that one vehicle that had the long rectangular antennae, possibly (just my theory )...i will post mine as this one and the one i have are both crude, but i do believe it is original.
Mine is yellow on the back ...your of course , is white. The photos i have taken a long time back, are not very good, but let me see if i can locate them , and ill post mine for comparison. I don't think these are found very often. Only the second ive ever seen. The flag guy will possibly have a photo of one during the day being used possibly, or maybe a photo freak might. I saw something like this near a German graveyard in russia, but it may not have been the same. Mine has poles (2 pc, on each end ), and comes apart and rolls up for easy transporting. anyway it goes around something , and has been tailor made to fit something specific.

What are the flag's dimensions and the size of the reenforced openings?

I'm afraid I no longer have the flag but from memory about 3'6" x 2'6"
