    Hello Chuck:
Nice eagle banner, IMO the color being for special party use occasions.
Regarding the "Golden Pheasant" term, it usually refers to the Golden Party
Badge, which was worn by the Alte Kämpfers who were favored by Hitler and
thus the rest of the Nazi Party Elite. The Alte Kämpfers (Old Fighters) was the
term used to describe those who joined the N.S.D.A.P before 1930. The "Golden
Pheasants" regarded new members with contempt, viewing them as opportunists.
The basic Nazi Party badge that these newer members wore was sarcastically
referred to as "Die Angstbrosche" (The Badge of Fear) by the 'old guard'. Below
    is a Golden Pheasant" flag.

Looks like a very fine quality flag or banner--is the eagle separately stitched or is it printed?

Sorry, I haven't been back to this thread for awhile.

The eagle is sewn directly to the body of the flag. Every outline is machine stitched.

OFW, I thought the term was more of a derisive comment from civilians about their uniformed local party officials that strutted around in their boots and tunics. I remember the term being used in the 1958 movie about the late-war German home front "A Time to Love and a Time to Die".

              JoeW:
As a slang term it could very well have a number of meanings,
depending on context. One in the "The Last Battle", by Cornelius
Ryan, says the "Golden Pheasants" are those privileged Third
Reich bureaucrats who wear the gilded swastika of the Nazi elite.

It is my understanding from listening to my elders talk when I was boy that indeed, golden pheasants referred to political leaders of all sorts, and not always pejoratively.

                  Value of Golden Pheasant banner

Any idea on a value of this banner? I know where there are 2 of these and I would like to make a fair offer to the owner.

Golden pheasants = Goldfasanen, a derogatory term the German population used for the high-ranking NSDAP party members (Reichsleitung), caused by the wearing of the political uniform (in brownish-yellow) with all its fittings in gold. Resembling the colors of a male pheasant. The term was in use since the introduction of the 1939 uniform. Gold was from then on the official color!

In 44+ years of flag collecting I've never seen a surviving
full size "real" post #2 flag. Most seen today are 60x90cm
printed fakes which sold in the 70's for around $20 USD.

Jeff Clark has what looks to be an original flag pictured in his Uniforms of the NSDAP book.

Is that the auto fender size example?

If so that is the only one I've seen so far.

Yep, that's the one. I have seen period photos of it on their cars during their trips around the different Gaus during the 30s.

                              Banner info

Does anyone have any more info on Chucks first photo? Other than the 2 my friend has this is the first one i have found on line in 2 years of searching. It leads me to believe they are fake but the vet said he brought them back. Unfortunately no one asked any further information and the vet passed away last year.
