Out of the woodwork banner - a big one!

Purchased this one the other day from the great nephew of the vet that brought it home.

Vet was 101st Abn and survived the war only to be killed two weeks after returning home in a car accident, or so the story goes.

Banner is approx. 25 ft. long and about five ft. wide. Marked as shown on both ends. Double sided.

      <CENTER>Hello Calvin:
A nice big flag for sure! Looks like maybe a rally stadium banner.
Only "MSP" letters that come to mind are MARINESCHIFFSPOST, but
that doesn't seem to fit a big flag unless flown from a Post Office?

The story goes that the GI mailed this one back to his sister.

The story goes that the GIs entered a large building, and they began collecting souviners. This GI told his sister that he got the largest souviner that he could find: the banner.

MARINESCHIFFSPOST might very well be correct.

        Thanks for posting.

I have 1 that is 18 foot x 5 foot. I believe it was on the outside of a building and thrown down in the street as 1 end has dirt and marks as if walked on.

about a month ago I was given the opportunity to pick up one of these that was the same size, The price was 500, which seemed fair to me, but i passed on it... what the heck would I do with that thing anyway?

I did have one idea.... I thought about taking it to a custom tailor and get it made into a bedspread. But I figured i"d leave it alone... didnt want to go cutting up a perfectly good banner...

I use to have one of those larger banners till i sold it many years ago (20) I got around $200.00 for it in trades. Use to find these larger ones for real cheap back them cause noone wanted the larger ones. I wish I still had mine now that they're going up in price.

                          Hello mackadoo:
Bravo, on the right idea of not wanting to cut up a "perfectly good banner".
As years ago I had a ~60 foot long Nuremberg type swastika banner,
but sold it off as I decided to focus my flag collecting to just the soldier
trooped size. Somewhat later I learned that my former big banner had
been cut up to make smaller flags, one of my early collecting lessons
that some folks are really only into militaria for the money.

Hi Calvin, great large banner. I have one the same size as this. Does yours have a multi piece swaz or printed? These are a great piece of history for sure, and are fun to own despite the massive size. Congrats Johnno.
