      Hello SSg:
Yes, I also like the "TimePix/Hugo Jaeger" massed flags photo shown
on page 191 of "Germany At War In Color" by Ltc. G. Forty printed in
2003 (ISBN 978-1-86200-496-2) that I also found remaindered at
Borders for $6.99 USD. It is also interesting to note the K-Bund veterans
banner with iron cross on swastika in teardrop pole top hidding out to the
left in that 21 May 1942 Innsbruck Austria photo you posted. Even,
better is the much rarer SA/SS/HJ Lanzespitze shown photo center.

Sir, thanks for your wonderful insight on the photo. yes i will get the book Germany At War In Color its a wonderful reference come to think of it (if only it retailed that cheap in my local bookstore ).

back to topic, heres a 13 june 1937 consecration ceremony. note the Flag of the Old Guard with the gilted 2nd pattern eagle poletop wish they had made the poletop bigger, it appears tiny among the sea of DE

                          In another link
These are called the 3rd pattern NSDAP pole tops
And there was a true 2nd pattern that came out between this one, and the 1st pattern
Why is everyone calling these the 2nd pattern pole top, and some call them 3rd pattern???

Over the decades since the end of WW2 the
typical NSDAP eagle pole tops most often seen
have been those of either the flat pointed wing
tip type & those of a higher relief curved wing tip,
which became being called by collectors as the 1st
& 2nd pattern tops. Subsequently encountered are
a very few eagle tops with high relief body & curved
wing tips - these are called by some the true 2nd
                              pattern NSDAP eagle pole tops.
