    Early Police Flag

    Everyone,

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me find the exact identity of this flag ? I basically know that it has the Prussian Police emblem, but thats about it.

The flag has no holes, some of the gold fringe is a little frayed, one of the clips is starting to pull away from the flag, other than that, the flag is in overall excellent condition. Also, the flag is double sided with both of the unit markings on both sides.

Based on rarity, would you say that this is a common, rare, very rare, or extremely rare flag ?

Does anyone have any other pictures of it, besides the ones simular to it in, Ulrich of Englands book on page 148.

Any help would be appreciated. regards, Grant

        <CENTER>Hello Grant:
Interesting posting, what goes around comes around - this stuff
I guess seems to out last us all, unless burned up in a fire. I used
to own this "Ortsgr. Jahnplatz Abt. Schutzpolizei" flag back in the
1970's. Have sent you a PM with more about same. It is one of
several flags of which I've always wondered where it was now?
There was also a Polish Eagle Marshal Pilsudski (POW) Standard
with 1921 date that was featured on the front cover of Manions
"Fox Hole" catalog from the same 1970's time period - anyone
        seen that one recently?

Grant, I answered your question in the police forum to the effect that this is one of the party flags carried by police party members in the time before the coming to power in January 1933. I know that Ulrich has described the photo he has and published in his magnificent work as Prussian police flags and their standard. But I think he has erred in his assumption. He had no explanation that accompanied his photo. These flags were carried by Polizei Fachgruppen or Polizei Fachschaft of the NSDAP. Here is a photo of a mass Nazi rally in the months before the election and coming to power that show some of these flags from the Berlin members of the NSDAP. They are at the rear center of the photo with their flags with police sunbursts visible. The description is of Betriebeszellen-Organisations of the NSDAP at a rallly in the Lustgarten in Berlin.

I have only a photo copy of another such flag marked to a Faschschaft in Meinengen, Thuringia that features the police suburst but with a city crest in the center. As I wrote, your flag is from the city of Bielefeld.

              Joe,

Hello, Many thanks for the information. That is a interesting photo showing flags simular to mine, thanks again.

I have had several emails and PM's by people making offers to buy this flag. My thoughts are this, once I determine a realistic value, then I will decide to part with it, as this is out of my area of what I collect. I will have it at my tables hanging up for anyone who would like to see it up close.

My new table location for the SOS is row: C tables 77 & 78

              Regards, Grant
