why would this not be an original piece?
the markings seem right to me and there are screw threads on the eagle itself? if it was a repro, most of the fasterners would have been solid filled in?

your learned opinions please.

A common aged copy of a large size bird--coming out of Europe ...the originals are rare...when I have time I will post pix of some real ones.

I'm no expert on RRE's but for me it is the peeling/spotting of the metal that
is not consistant with what I have been with originals. It shows a what appears a different composition of medals used that what is normally witnessed.
And that is a "red flag" for me at least.

This eagle does not look like it is made of the correct metal. These were designed to withstand weather and dirty train conditions.

All the ones I have seen have male posts too. Were there any females made?

I am far from the authority but three things that stand out are;

1) ruff surface indicative of recast copy but can also be due to media blasting.

2) full length of stud castings lacking also comon on many repro's can also be due to someone grinding them down.

3) odd colors on surface could be due to odd mix of metals not normally seen on known originals. Can also be due to someone attempting to refinish and applying unkown sealant.
