Blutfahne (The Blood Flag)

I know this has been discussed previously but in a past thread a member claimed they knew the Blood Flag was in the collection of a "wealthy German collector". Can anyone shed further light on this claim?

Seriously though, from what I've read it's believed that it was most likely destroyed when the Brown House was bombed.

I believe it is still in existande, somewhere well hidden away. Remember that there has never been a Naval Standard found, all the huge bronze coffins of the 9 Nov 1923 Putsch fallen found, and several other important relics of the Third Reich found (from the Third Reich Kampfzeit Museum).

Many items were secreted away, in the last days of the 3rd Reich and are surely secured, not to see the light of day.

That's really intersting, Bob - I hadn't realized that the sarcophagi from the Ehrentemples were never located. Kind of creepy, in a way.

Actually, Frederick the Great, Hindenburg's and Frederick William's coffins, and their wives', were only found by luck after they had been removed from their resting places and hidden away before the Allies arived. A great story, there. Even in the last days of the war enough was thoughtof them to create sort of a shrine - over 150 Imperial stadards were arranged around the coffins.

i would say for sure their out there hidding some place! look where are all the SS rings hidden at? at least people knew where they were taken to and still they have not been found??

one day someone or a old family member will come out with something saying their great/great/great/great/--- grandfather had this or??? and we just found them?? FLAGS,FLAGS,FLAGS!!!!

Bob..the allies did indeed find the bronze coffins,and all were ordered to be melted down,the bodies returned to respective family members and buried in unmarked graves (all in accordance to the de-nazification policies, and to prevent them becoming shrines to nazism.)

All that is left of them are some of the letters from the lids which were cut away and presented to a Canadian intelligence corp major, and used to spell out his family name in a stone driveway at his home in Ottawa.

There is a great photo of it in the Canadian war museum.

There are a few flags that went missing at the end of the war, The Blood Flag being one and the LSSAH standarte (cloth part) was also taken and hidden away at the end of the war.

Its nice to think that these flags could be hidden in someones attic or burried in hole in ground somewhere in germany just waiting to be discovered.

As I recall, the cloth drape of the LSAH was found by George Petersen in the Soviet Archives, where it was then re-united with the carrying pole.

Bill is right, the soviets had the LAH cloth part all along but never knew they had it until it was 'found' for them. I really think alot of these items might have gone back with the Russians who might have 'lost' them because they simply do not know what they have.

The Blood Order flag still exists! My partner almost bought it in the early 80s and greatly regrets he did not. One of the legendary dealers of the time bought this flag from a vet’s son back then. When he went over he saw it through the window of the house and his legs went limp. When he entered it was explained that a SS officer was befriended by a US soldier who had gave him food and drank with him. Before the vet left Germany the one time SS officer told him he wanted to give him something important, this flag. My partner saw it and was going to buy it but was afraid storage could have been a problem. After thinking it over for a week he called to say “I will take it”, only to learn it was sold. A German dealer had stopped over to his house and asked “what was new” as he was speaking to the dealer’s wife. When he turned his head, the dealer was holding the flag. When he turned and saw the flag he instantly fainted. When he awoke he proceeded to buy the flag and sold it to a German collector. Sorry to be vague in some areas but I have to keep this as confidential as possible.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>
