hello all, im after an ss flag, and im affraid i need help in getting a right one, any tips, theres one on regimentals, but ive heard bad thing about them, . any help appreciated phil.

I have handled two SS flags (owned one of 'em) that I considered original. They were both nearly identical. They were large; unmarked on the bunting; and had printed SS runes. Be very, very careful with these. They would almost need some kind of provenance to confirm originality. I never dealt with the Dealer mentioned but if he has a bad rep, then he is not one to buy this type of flag from!

If I were a flag faker, this would be the flag I would fake. It is the easiest to make and it sells for big $'s.

I think I would like to have carbon-14 dating on it -- and even then it could be a modern put-together with original materials.

Peter has a lifetime guarantee, so if a cheap carbon-14 home test kit comes out in the next few years, you could always return it.

I've owned 2, one I believe was original and the other was a fake.

Then there was this one that I think is a fake. It didn't have any markings, it didn't look as "clean" as it does and apparently there are real Oslo flags out there but I could smell the newness in this one:

Oh and as for a price guide, of course it all depends on size, condition, stitching, workmanship etc etc, I fully believe that you need to have a hands on inspection with an SS flag, this is essential. I also think that once you've made your mind up, with help from places like here or with a Dealer that you may have built a relationship up with, that one would be kidding themselves if they were to think that they could buy a real one under a bare minimum of $2000.00. thanks scott for your time,,, judging by the replies of the ss tab on the ss forum ,i may even turn down a genuine ss flag down , so even if there are marking on the seam, they are still authentic then? there seems to be conflicting opinions on this,

Personally, I've given up on SS flags, it's too hard for me.

From what I've read, the majority of SS flags aren't marked but there are exceptions like the one I've shown.

I have asked for opinions on different forums and have also provided pictures to a few dealers about my marked one above and there has been no conclusive evidence either way as to whether it's real or a repro.

I'm always looking for SS flags but the day will come that I realize that I must stick to daggers only...

I also have a small SS flag like the first one pictured.while it smells old,looks old and passed the black light and burn test i can't be positive if genuine world war two.Flag is marked Lager Fl. 50 x 75 Lorenz Summa & Sohne,Oberkotzau.Sorry i am not aloud to post pictures yet,Oh,and also this flag is double sided with the sewn on cotton SS runes to what looks alot like black wool.

The fact that these flags are so easy to fake and people are so leary of them has kept the price down well below what they should be worth in terms of rarity. Certainly there were hundreds (if not thousands) of SS helmets & chained SS daggers produced to every flag. Yet I think many would pass on one if Himmler himself handed it off!
