    Carved Wood wall Eagle

Here is one coming to auction soon. It looks to me like it is a recently made piece.

Looks cool, but I would never personally buy something like this. Anyone with good carving skills could have made it. There's really no way to prove that it's period.

Doesn’t look like anything I have ever seen from the Third Reich!

To my eyes there does seem to be an attempt to age the piece

            Not period.
Made in one part. Wrong smooth back. Weird design. Artificially aged.

Unusual, doesn't conform to known examples?

Why does it ‘necessarily’ follow that a bird designed/carved not to appear like all the other political or army birds (“weird design”) is immediately questionable? (How many configurations of eagle ~ Luft, Heer, NSKK, Diplomatic, HJ, etc. ~ do we see in the country’s various organizations? Those are just the ‘official’ eagle designs not taking into account artistic variances.) Why does it ‘necessarily’ follow that a bird carved from one piece of wood versus pieced together is immediately questionable?

I like Michael’s bird. I wish it was here with my staffle of birds.

Eagles or « cultural » items in wood are easy to make that’s why they are more and more faked. The same with enamel plates.
Several fake eagles have surfaced on the market in Europe in the last years, sold at shows or auctions.
All have been ordered and made in an exotic country. I will only say that it is not in Africa nor in Asia.
Different patterns hand carved by low cost skilled local craftsmen. Some details are wrong even if some issues have been fixed by the faker on the last made pieces.
I would never buy a wood eagle without solid provenance...
