Enamel signs are a land mine, these are common fakes.

Thanks to everyone who helped me save money and judging by the comments I think I will stay clear of the enamel market !

The enamel signs subject is a "snake-pit".
I often think I should not have written my enamel book, which was published in 2009.
There were already fakes known then, but a few years after the publishing market was
be awashed with fakes from mostly eastern countries.

Does this mean one should not write books? No of course, as the books are meant to
be a guide for those interested and to learn about facts of history!

With these enamel signs you really have to hold them in the hands to separate the wheat from the chaff. Based on photos only you can easily be fooled (except with bad fakes / fantasy items of course). By the way the "Bernd Wegner" sign posted here with the inscription "THE" Waffen-SS seems to have been made by a faker who didn't learn German at school !!!

For my book I inspected and held in hand all what was from the Philippe GILLAIN Collection
and as such credited.
Later all of his collection was stolen, including the enamel signs as far as they were not sold before.
