State Office/Diplomatic large wall metal eagle for review

    Hi
I have just been offered this eagle for sale. To my eyes it looks right, but have never had one in hand. Can the forum members tell me their thoughts. Thanks
    Regards
    John

Other than the Kroll Opera House backdrop I'm not familiar with any other example of this sharp eagle as a wall decoration which isn't saying much. Only my opinion but I think it looks like an original. Is there any information regarding the "Reno" mark?

It is a beautiful Art Deco design that appears on crossguards of Government Officials and Diplomatic dirks. The little research I've foundis that M8 is used for wall hanging products and Reno appears to be the main maker of these, marking the tops of the wings, instead of the backs.

Very funny, has to be a fake marking - or stamped by a dyslexic worker.....

I would view this a re-cast, and not a very good one at that.

Actually, I've checked previous posts on the forum 'Diplomatic wall eagles' and several come up. Same design, same marks.

I love the way these look, but I never saw a period picture of these. I tried researching these many years ago. I'm not aware of any of these being original. I think it's a recast of a fantasy piece. Too many stamps to gin it up, markings not molded. Just my opinion.

Of all the various eagle designs from the TR era, this one -- known as "the Reichstag Eagle," used by both the Government Leaders cadre and the Foreign Office, depending on which way the eagle's head was turned -- has long been the most appealing design, IMHO. I guess it's the "Deco" design that captures my fancy!

Indeed this eagle design was used on the daggers of both the Government and Foreign Office leadership, and I understand that versions of this same design were also used on German Government buildings.

Whether this particular example is period or a modern casting, I don't know.

There are at least three sizes of this wall eagle in metal. I am not going to make a call on this one as I would have to compare images.
