    Browning Bar-wehrmacht?

Did wehrmacht or SS ever used Browning BAR?
I don’t find it in kennblätter der fremden geräts more than the polish and Belgien versions?

Kind of surprising that not the US made ones should have been used?

May well have been as a quick battlefield pick up, but ask yourself about calibre issue?

Presumably the Belgian/polish items are not US ammo ( I have never looked this up)

One would imagine a captured weapon that was intended to be carried/used for a length of time, it's user would make sure adequate ammo was taken as well....

Having said this, I don't readily recall photographic evidence of Germans using captured BAR's....Was a good weapon for anti-material usage, but they (Germans) didn't always like using heavy US weapons...American soldiers complained about them as well....The low number of photos of them w/garands is limited, but probably more of them carrying the M1 carbines....Bodes

Just checked The polish BAR and that was in 7.92x57 so makes sense any captured, and their must have been a few, were reused as common ammo calibre.

"The German armed forces captured a number of Polish-made Browning guns and used them until the end of World War II under the designation of lMG 28 (p).[2] A number were also seized by the Red Army and used during the war.[2]"

        Quote wiki.

Problem with the US calibre is that by the time they were encountering them the German army were not advancing but going the other way. Ergo no opportunity to capture the very large stocks of ammunition. Not saying their was no opportunity at all but volumes captured would have only been of value at a very local level.

        Regards

        Tim
