    1944 Remington Rand/1945 M1 Garand

I have a 1944 Remington Rand 1911a1 and 1945 Springfield M1 garand for review. I looked up the proof and serial marks for the m1 garand and it looks to be all from 1945 including the barrel. The only post war part on the garand looks to be the bolt "6528287-SA" which is from 1952 according to http://usriflecal30m1.com/. Please let me know if both of these guns looks authentic. I really appreciate everyones help. The seller is asking for $3000 for both.

Your garand bolt appears to be made by Harrington & Richardson's Arms (HRA), but is still not the original...Bodes

Thank you for your help. In your opinion would it still be worth the pick up if the price is right? Is it still a good collector piece even with the one post war part?

In addition to the HRA bolt mentioned, the sights on the M1 Rifle are post WWII. WWII sights for that rifle would be "lock bar".

Remington Rand has been through Rock island Arsenal.

            About $2000 or so tops.

The 1911A1 appears to be a correct 3rd model. Assuming the barrel is either Flannery Bolt or High Standard produced with a decent bore, retail is in the $1500 range regardless of the arsenal surcharge and that's assuming it hasn't been throated or otherwise modified..

The M-1 was produced in about May 1945 and should have an NFR stock to be original, along with a type 3 locking bar rear sight, SA 12 bolt, stamped trigger guard. The GAW stock is prime trade material as WWII cartouched Garand wood has become not only very scarce, but pricey. With correct WWII barrel and low ME/Te, it's an excellent candidate for restoration if you want the headaches. As she sits, top retail would be about $950. At today's prices, the stock alone is worth about as much as the barreled action. Most WWII Springfield M-1 parts are readily available. Had the Garand been in 100% correct 1945 condition, it would probably sell in the $1,600 - $1,800 range. People ask more, but that seems to be about what they bring unless CMP is selling one and then the price is frequently beyond all reason.

              Hope this helps.

While the stock still has it's cartouche, it is in pretty rough condition. If the rifle was still all original the stock would be a bonus on that rifle, but would not have a lot of value for a restoration. There are internal parts that are also marked and would need to fit the time frame the rifle was manufactured.

I agree as well. I see normal mixmaster garands priced for $1,000 and up at local shows, but seldom see one move. The same with the $2,000 and up rearsonaled Remington Rands at the shows.
