I'm not 100% certain, but the barrel appears to be for a Wehrmann Gewehr (service man's rifle), single shot target rifle. I believe the proof marks are of post 1950, Suhl, East German origin.

I got my answer on gun boards

It's a target rifle barrel for a 98 Mauser type rifle, chambered for the 8.15x46mm Rimmed cartridge, much like the .32-40, and intended primarily for target shooting up to 200 meters. The proof marks are commercial and pre-WW2. If the barrel is ca. 29" long, it was probably from a Wehrmannsgewehr (reservist's rifle). Such rifles were built specifically for the rimmed cartridge, and were made as both repeaters and single-shots. They were/are very fine rifles, but many of them were re-barreled as custom varmint rifles for rimmed U.S. cartridges, which is probably how the barrel came to be separated from its original rifle.

Do you have an image or drawing of the pre WW2 proof marks?

East Germany took the same markings of imperial Germany after the war to mark their guns.
