I went and looked at a P38 today, it's nice, all matching, with an extra magazine and a nice holster, plus some history to go with it from the owner, it's been in the family since 1945. So, my quandry is the price, P38's keep trending up in price. He wants 1400$ for the rig. I'm comfortable putting in 800$ for the pistol, so does the extra magazine and holster warrant the extra 600$, sorry, I thought my pics were better of the markings, then I got home. Marked to a gefreiter on the inside of the flap. Chris... Basically I'm looking for feedback on rarity/value on the holster....

I agree . . . too high. You are talking about a VERY common pistol in average condition; nothing to get all whooped up over. The holster, IMO, is the real gem in the deal . . . at least to someone who is really into P.38 holsters and that sort of stuff matters to them. Does the holster add $600 value to the deal . . . not in my opinion.

In spite of what others here have said, the holster does command a premium price for what it is, and the condition it's in.
Now, IMO, is it $600 worth. No, not at all. His price is too high.
Does the spare magazine come with it as well? If so, what is mag? That will helpt determine what you should offer.

As mentioned previously, it's a scarce holster and should command a premium but I have never been able to get more than the going price from other manufacturers for one and they were slow sellers at that. I currently have a late '44 ndk that is the obvious effort of unskilled labor and far more crude than the one pictured. I'll send pix if anyone's interested.
