    Any ideas on this handgun?

    Hello all,

    somebody I know found this old handgun during reconstruction of a house in Austria - any ideas as to what type of gun it is, what the "u SS"means, and what is it worth?

    I couldn't see any markings on the gun and it's rusted up but any suggestion/opinios would be appreciated

    It is a Sauer 38H. You can google it.

      SuS =Sauer und Sohn

      What was said in above in above post, also the grips look intact so far and are often broken or replaced so that aspect is nice.

        Seriously. It's amazing that a relic 38H has intact grips when even good conditioned ones often have cracked grips.

          Make certain that it isn't loaded. Penetrating oil might loosen the grip screws. I'd immerse the rest in diesel fuel for about a week, bronze brush the surface and bore, then attempt disassembly. Condition wise, it reminds me of the barn finds that I was offered in Italy.

              I think it is a very interesting relic in "as found" condition. I would not change it in any way . . . no oiling, cleaning, scrubbing, etc. . . . just leave the thing as is. IMO, this one is plenty interesting just as it is . . . a bit of a "time capsule" found in an old house where it has been hidden away since the end of WWII.

                I agree.To clean this up would be to rub away its history.

                  Very neat. Seems like the version without safety lever and one line slide legend near the end of German production.

                    Cleaning it might turn it into a firearm under German law
                    As it is it cannot be fired
