MP44 Experts Needed

Here is an MP44 I am looking at. It is a fully functional machine gun. It has a matching lower and upper receiver, however the bolt and bolt carrier match to each other but not the firearm. What is the rough value for a firearm like this and what are your thoughts about it? Thanks for the help!

I will give it a shot! I am not an expert on these guns however know if the gun has been demilled and reactivated (I don’t know if that is the right terminology) that makes a difference in price. Also the barrel condition is a big deal too. I have heard it was common for the bolt to be switched out, but again I am not an expert.

This gun has been on Rubens site for some months. Ruben got 3 in all at once. The other two sold quickly. This one has been sitting for a reason, price is too high. I like the patina and original finish. The barrel pin has been messed with so it’s probably a rewat which is not the end of the world but it is a negative. Non matching lowers the price too. I just saw an all matching go for $23k on sturm.Ruben has good quality stuff and stands behind his sales but i think around 25k would be a good price. Just my 2 cents.

I greatly appreciate the feedback. I am torn between a MP44 like that or a all matching C&R MP40.

So what would be a generally a "better" machine gun purchase, a MP40 or MP44? I can only afford one.

If you are going to use it at all. MP40. 9mm is abundant and parts are plentiful.

if it was me i would have to buy the mp44, i bought mine on gb several years ago i think it was 16k . i love it reload my own 7.92 .i traded a mp5sd for a mp40 about 12 years ago .liked the mp5 but the mp40 is still fun to shoot. dont wait till its gone and then too late. Saw a schnellfeuer come uo on gb a couple years ago looked at it for maybe 5min and pressed buy it now.Guns like these never come down they always go up, good luck on your decision. The MP44 is a little bit of a beast to shoot compare to the soft shooting MP40. Don’t get me wrong if I’m in a trench on the eastern front in 1944 I’m going with the sturm.

I was in the exactly same situation as you, but believe me when I say that you might end up owning both

Regarding which one is "better", I would say that the MP40 is a funnier rifle to shoot. Its recoil is quite smooth, the price of the ammo is affordable and you can engage common and cheap steel targets, which is always fun.

The MP44 is more what I understand as a true combat rifle, suitable for being used at a medium range with a higher firepower, but heavier and more expensive to shoot. Nevertheless, its level of rarity nowadays is far away from the MP40, which could be considered as a relatively common to find rifle.

So, for trying to help you while making your decision I would say:

- MP40 if you want an iconic rifle for shooting, enjoying and of course with an historical value.
- MP44 if you are going to shoot only from time to time but you appreciate the great rareness of the forerunner of all the modern assault rifles.
