I'd imagine parts could have been sent to the front as needed or the guns would just be discarded and replaced with something else.

Were there any recorded instances of guns being sent back to their manufacturers during the war to be repaired and then reissued?

Everything that could be repaired was repaired and what could not be repaired was to some degree salvaged from.
The repairs and re-works were performed at various echelons. Easy fixes and parts replacement was performed at unit level within the division and lower. Complete rebuilds were conducted at ordnance depots of which there were a good number.

There was some factory rework of German small arms but this primarily occurred in the inter war years between ww1 and WW2

The police forces maintained their own main armory and satellite armories, as well as regional repair stations.

The repair of weapons in the years after WWI was restricted to the Simson & Co. firm allegedly because of the marriage of French General Nollet into the Simson family. Nollet was head of the IAMC.

Yes. Lugers seem to have been sent mostly to the depot at ingolstadt

only partly true. In the German army there were certain repairs armorers were forbidden to do and required depot work.

Hello,
some MG34 show all signs of a recovery in the factory after big damage.
MG34s from 1938/1939 or 1940 are sometimes found with end-of-war type DOT coolers.

I do not know enough about other German weapons to draw the same conclusion
