this MAUSER 9mm is 9x25 also too long .

The foregoing three (3) WWII German photos showing Luftwaffe ground troops using the MP30 and/or MP34 appear to be a sequence taken in close proximity to each other; my recollection is that these photos were taken on the Eastern Front.
Here is an MP34 that is Luftwaffe procured (E/L on stock); under the rear sight it is marked "M 9" . . . which I understands means that the sight is calibrated for the 9mm Mauser (9 x 25) cartridge. This particular gun now has a 9 x 19 barrel in it for recreational shooting purposes (with the original barrel having been lost prior to my acquisition of the gun), so I can't be certain what caliber this particular MP34 was originally issued in . . . . but the rear sight base assembly (which I believe is original to the gun) is marked "M 9".
I've always been really confused re: WWII German military use of the ex-Austrian MP30 and MP34 SMG's (which were 9 x 25 caliber in Austrian service) . . . these guns are an extremely easy conversion to the standard German military 9 x 19 caliber. None-the-less, the German military appears to have used these SMG's in the original 9 x 25 caliber. In fact, I have a few rounds of WWII German production 9 x 25 ammo in my display case at home (and suspect that my ammo came in a box just like the one that forms the subject of this Thread).Comment

Here is a photo of the "M 9" marking under the rear sight . . . not the best photo, but it's all I have handy at the moment. Also shown is the "Eagle over L" Luftwaffe marking on the matching numbered stock, together with a view of the magazine well that shows the "wide" 9 x 25 magazine in place.
Hopefully the foregoing photos and comments will prompt further discussion of the German WWII military use of 9 x 25 chambered MP30 and MP34 SMG's . . . it seems to me like introducing such non-standard caliber weapons into the supply system would have very much complicated the matter (and just seems senseless, considering the ease of conversion to 9 x 19 and the fact that the Steyr factory had the capability to produce 9 x 19 barrels and magazine housings . . . . as you see used in the c. 1942 Portugese contract MP34's).
So, any thoughts/analysis/opinions on these matters would be much appreciated.Comment

Here are a couple of photos of the small handful of vintage 9mm Mauser (9 x 25) ammo that I have, with a modern 9 x 19 round included for size comparison. One of the vintage rounds (pictured) has the "635" maker code and is dated "2" "40" (i.e. February, 1940), so I think that other than the date my single round is identical to the ammo that is inside Red Lion's sealed box.
Also, it is very interesting to see the side-by-side comparison of the 9 x 25 round to the standard 9 x 19 Parabellum round (DWM case #480c) . . . the 9mm Mauser round appears to be significantly more powerful and, I suspect, there would be a noticeable difference (from the shooter's point of view) when firing an MP34 in 9mm Mauser vs. one converted to 9mm Parabellum.Comment
