New Book on Weimar Era Police Service Weapons

I posted this on the Police Forum and thought some of this forum members might find interest in this book.

I thought I would tell those members interested in Weimar era service weapons about a new book published by the German Police Historical Association. It is a large format book of almost 400 pages covering all manner of police service weapons-everything except blades. The text is in German and most of the many period photos are of course black and white. But the weapons and accessories are in glorious color. Now German text is not that difficult to handle as most of the image descriptions are self explanatory. Besides pistols and rifles, armored cars, training rifles and accessories, flare guns and even brass knuckles are discussed. The price with shipping to the US is the equivalent of $112.

As of now, the books can be ordered from the association but payment must be made by bank transfer to the association account in Euros. For those US forum members who are interested, I would be willing to order the book and pay for it in that manner after receipt of the funds from you. European and German forum members who are interested, I can put you in touch with the officer selling the books and you can make your own arrangements by email in German.

Attached are some views of the book, including the table of contents.
Please PM me if you have any interest.

    Joe,

Many thanks for your post about this new reference! A critical missing piece of the larger puzzle.

Joe, I suspect the German audience for a book like this is quite small. An English version would sell much better.

I am with Jerry here - but it is a nice addition to anyone interested on this not well known area of firearms collecting.

Jerry, I was not aiming at the German members on WAF. The book is marketed in Germany, was available at the Kassel show. I was hoping that US members would seek to expand their knowledge of the firearms used by the Weimar era police forces. One needn’t be fully capacle of reading German to learn from this book. I was not aware of some of the sidearms employed by the smaller municipal police forces in this period. Some not mentioned in HWIS, though Don’s book was referenced.

And Jerry, with the translation capabilities available now online, one can readily avail themselves of knowledge in the German text. The Google Translate app can translate in a variety of ways.

Joe, Yes..you are correct of course. Being in German doesn't affect most people with a thirst for knowledge. Unfortunately this inconvenience of language and requirement to google translate interferes with my 10 hour workday pushing a needle. This might not be the case for most people. Thanks for showing..

Jerry, your thumb and forefinger must be as tough as leather. Hah.

The photos of other firearms used by the police in this period are fantastic, as well as the other Dienstwaffen used. There is no shortage in the use of color images. I would never have known the Rheinmetall to have been used by German police but for this book.
