    Pre-WWI unit marking

    Hi all,

I have been trying to figure out this unit marking: L.C.X.

It is located on the buttplate of a German converted Chassepot.
The rifle after conversion is sometimes referred to as:
    Aptierter Chassepot-Karabiner M/71.

I have scoured Jeff Nolls book The Imperial German Regimental Marking but can find no real leads.

Any thoughts others may have are certainly welcome.

According to Nolls the L could be
    Land-Gendarmerie
    Lehr
    Landwehr
    Landsturm
Luft (given the time frame I don't think this would apply, but it could)

I did find a unit marking in Nolls: L.B.x which is listed as being Landwehr-Batterie des x Armeekorps.

But I can find nothing with C as the second part of the marking.

    thanks for your thoughts...

Only German word with C i can think of is Chef (as in Chief).
Germans write allot of C words with a K (like: Kompanie, Korps, etc.).
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.
