    brno 45

Can someone please look at this and give an opinion? I am an insignia collector but I'm feeling the itch for a 98K.

This is a minty unfired example of the the famous Mauser 98K. It was made in the Nazi captured CZ Brno factory and bears the Nazi code "dou" with a build date of 45. At same time the Russians were invading Czechoslavia and this gun was still in factory. The last shipment to go the Nazis was serial numbered in the F block. This gun is in the middle of the H block, only one and a half blocks away when the Russians came in. It was part of the original Nazi production that missed the last shipment.

This rifle is post war Czech assembled using some German made left over parts. Not German assembled rifle. You can see that it lacks German proofs, but has Czech Lion proof mark. No close up of the bolt, so I can't tell if bolt is German. Trigger guard is not German made.

I agree. But it is still rare rifle to find. It was made only for 2 years after the war if I am not wrong, before Russians shut down the production.

Thx Cossack & rajko. Looking for a shooter to take to the range. There is a repro ZF 41 scope being offered. It would all be cobbled together non-collectible garbage but it would be fun to send a few down range with.
        thx

If you need a shooter, get a stock or bolt mismatch. They still have collector value and mostly often original finish. They will be representative what German soldier could have and can be found for reasonable prices on Gunbroker. Other option would be Russian Capture rifle, but they have ugly Russian arsenal cold reblue, electropenciled numbers and are total mismatches.

Thanks Jack. Been looking at the captured Russian pieces as well as mismatched stuff. Just want to avoid garbaging up a collectible piece. Still doing my homework on this. I appreciate the guidance 👍🏻.
