Thoughts on K98 and G43 Purchase?

    Hey guys,

I was offered these from another collector.

    TWO K98;s and ONE K43.

Though I am only showing 2 of the rifles in the photo, there is a second K98.

He is asking $2000 for the set of 3.

    K98:

These are both import marked with a "8mm German" on the side of the barrels. Most (80%) of the parts are matching on each...bolts are matching to themselves. One is solid walnut (I believe...looks somewhat tiger strip on the butt), while the other one is laminated.

One is bnz43; the other is 243 1938.

One sling is good, one is repro.

    Winter Trigger could be repro.

Not sure about the Edelweiss. It is original...but could be collector added. It is mounted recessed into the stock.

    K43:

Repro scope mount. All visible numbers are matching. Stock is original from what I can tell in person. There are 2 markings behind the trigger guard, but I cannot read them. Made by AC...in the 6000 serial block. Appears to be unfired.

The owner got them in the 1970's.

    Thoughts?

The stock on the K43 looks to have been sanded, as bluing appears missing from the recoil lug.....Walther made K43's generally had proofs towards the buttplate end of the stock....No buttstock serial numbers will be found on late '44 and '45 made rifles.....If K43 hasn't been fiddled with, that rifle alone is worth the asking price....Bodes

The machined opening for the sling buckle looks rounded instead of exhibiting sharp edges....This indicates sanding, which will hurt value to some degree....Is the rifle '45 dated?...If so, it could be a dual lug....That would be a good thing, Bodes

That's a pretty attractive price for a G43 and 2 K98s but there are certainly negatives that the seller has priced in.

That engraving on the stock would need closer inspection but was likely added later which hurts value.

The '43 stock definitely looks sanded/worked which hurts the value there.

I might try to haggle a few hundred off for all the problems if you're just looking for a couple examples or the collection...

If all the numbers on the two 98k examples aren’t matching, they are just shooters. Worth $400 +/- each.
The 43 sounds OK. Finding an unsanded example is difficult.
                    Value? $2000+
Total value of three rifles-Approximately $2800.
                    Your decision.

I agree 100 percent with that opinion. You just don't see, or I don't at least, K/G 43s with scope, repro scope mount, etc., going for under 2,000.00 USD.
