    Colt 1911A1

Three years ago a well known dealer from Germany did import many Colt 1911A1 pistols for european market. The story behind - refinished postwar in US arsenal, then sent to Vietnam. Here are some pictures. Can you tell anything about these?

    Thank you!

Fake markings, and no way of knowing what it started out as. The serial number would make it a Remington Rand, and pictured is a RR as close as I could find. The markings on the fake don't even resemble the Remington Rand I picture, and notice that it does not have the Ordnance crossed cannons acceptance mark.

Even the NM part number on the slide is fake.

Original Remington Rand from August 1943.

No response here, but same exact fake except serial number No.1021055 was just posted on another firearms forum. Looks like someone has an assembly line turning these out.

Johny, can you let us know some details about this other forum? Many people in Poland do believe, these pistols are original No, it is not another polish joke - just reality...

Sent you the link to the other forum. Would be interesting to see if this is the same dealer as posted on the other forum.

There is absolutely no doubt that the markings are fake. The receiver may be a GI receiver, or may be modern production. Either way the markings have been scrubbed, and illegal to possess in the U.S. There is also no doubt that the intention is to deceive.

It is not illegal to possess because of what it is, but because the original serial number has been altered. Whatever the pistol was originally the serial number has been removed and a new one applied.

§ 478.34 Removed, obliterated, or altered serial number.
No person shall knowingly transport, ship, or receive in interstate or foreign commerce any firearm which has had the importer's or manufacturer's serial number removed, obliterated, or altered, or possess or receive any firearm which has had the importer's or manufacturer's serial number removed, obliterated, or altered and has, at any time, been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.

German dealer do sell these for 500 - 520 Euro - with CIP and without CIP markings. Then in Poland - 1000 Euro.
