    M1911 #136655 Camp Shelby (MS) Museum

    I observed this M1911 yesterday at the Mississippi Military Museum located at Camp Shelby, in Hattiesburg, MS. Any idea what the shipment date would have been for this gun? Any interesting destination/recipient shown for this shipment?
    Just thought that some of you ".45 guys" might enjoy seeing the gun . . . and I am curious as to when/where it was shipped.

      Shipped November 16, 1916 to Springfield Armory. The lowest production year for the Model 1911 pistol with only slightly more than 4200 shipped in 1916.

      The slide is not original to the pistol as the MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY sat slightly higher on the slides of the pistols made in 1916. It had to be in the alignment of the slide or roll die when the marking was applied, but is a unique feature. All the pistols were shipped between September 30 and December 16, 1916, so purchase by the military had been curtailed for almost a year.

        Another Model 1911 shipped September 30, 1916, showing the high slide markings. The slide markings are still the Roman style (with serifs) where the pistol shown by Alan has Gothic style markings. The change from Roman to Gothic was made around the 180000 serial number range.
