United Defense m42 - need some help

Came across one recently- pretty interesting piece!

Would anyone be able to help with guidance to verify registration on an M42?

    Thanks!

I was offered this same gun. My advice- you’re an absolute fool to buy an illegal machine gun, especially from someone you don’t know whose peddling it all over. And no, it can’t be registered. It even has a police property marking on it and you’re still considering it?? You’re asking for time in pound my ass prison !

Not the respectful insightful response I would have hoped for here.

Already liased with ATF to verify status and informed seller of legal options.

Not meant to be disrespectful, but IMO insightful nonetheless. Unregistered machinegun off craigslist... I’d run.

            Liased with ATF???

So, ATF just told you the information on the serial status of the M42 over the phone? Or, what exactly transpired when you called ATF to "verify" the registration or lack of registration of the M42?
ATF is legally ineligible to give any information from the NFRTR on a registered MG except to the registrant of record.
Enquiring minds would like to know…..

I dont think odds are good with the back and forth at this point, but I've clearly detailed all legal options to the buyer.

I spoke with a local branch agent who took down the serial and model, called back 60 min later saying they didn't show such a model and serial, but did disclose that there was another registered weapon with the same serial - a description and caliber that didn't come close to the descrip.
