What is the best way to post pictures in the Forum?
Can I still edit my previous post?

      Very strange.

It is probably a late war HZa repair parts depot put together. Erfurt frame with Mauser replacement parts, the Germans using up whatever they had.

I agree with you (above) and this variation is actually in the "books". I have handled a couple and have seen a couple of others. Each slightly different of course in terms of component combinations, but with that HZA stamp and general characteristics. It seems to me that the serial number(s) were all placed during the re-build, with the original one the frame being ground off and a new one being stamped. Often with other types of German arsenal/depot rebuild weapons all of the replaced are just matched to the original receiver number.
I think that these were, as you stated, more new builds from salvaged and spare new parts than strictly speaking re-build of 08s coming in for a face-lift.
Very interesting and scarce variation IMO

The receiver appears to be a Mauser replacement with the 42 in the area of the serial number.

The receiver, rear toggle, and barrel are all "42" replacement parts. The strange thing they even went to the trouble to correctly mark the inside of the sideplate #73 (the first two numbers plus 1).
