I'm pretty sure it's a blank firing cap (or blank firing device) with a fake marking (looks a little bit a the USM1 one).

The device is a Mündungschöner (muzzle protector) for cleaning the P08 (Luger). It was introduced in the Weimar era. I am familiar with those used by the Prussian police. These were adapted by the Prussian police with the addition of an Einstecklauf (barrel insert) to fire 4mm M20 cartridges for training.
Not sure about the WaA but it is of the Reichswehr period I believe and so would be appropriate time wise. Perhaps the WaA number was assigned to a different manufacturer earlier in the 1930s, as this dates from early to mid 1930s.
The device is pressed onto the muzzle of the Luger and turned counterclockwise to lock onto the front sight block. When fitted with the 4mm EL, the Luger is cocked, the 4mm cartridge is inserted into the bore, the device inserted into the barrel and locked as described above. The pistol is fired and the procedure reversed and the empty cartridge ejected.Last edited by JoeW; 04-12-2018, 03:45 PM.Comment

Bruno, they aren't often seen. No apologies necessary. Here are two images from my collection showing a Prussian police muzzle cap and the insert barrel used to transform it to an EL.
There were several varieties of 4mm conversion units used by the Prussian police with the P08.Comment

I love this forum, so much accumulated knowledge, so basically, similar to the muzzle guide for Vickers MG. To prevent damage to the muzzle from cleaning rods.
unless of course modified as stated to use a sub calibre device.
Neat.
Just as an aside Bruno, what makes you suspect the waffen is incorrect?

Sorry I wasn't specific Willi. It was for the M20 4mm (rimless cartridge) which was the only 4mm used in the Einstecklauf for pistols and for rifles using the EL dummy cartridge, that was bored out to accept the M20 4mm.Originally posted by Willi Z. View PostComment

Willi, the M20 4mm training ammo was specifically designed for the barrel insert conversion units, or in some instances those units using dummy cartridges bored through for the cartridge (Walthers for example). No rim means the empty casing must be manually removed with a small rod.
You JGA 4mm takes the 4mm rimmed cartridge designed for bolt actions where the extractor removes the casing.
Both of these are available from a company in Texas. I bought some more of the M20 4mm last year.Comment
