i wounder if yours has a lot of grease inside the lower. i see what looks to be grease or cosmoline around the rear of your trigger. have you broke the pistol down for cleaning?

Where would it have gotten the 9 MM LUGER marking? Wasn't it the 9mm Parabellum in Germany?

Sorry,but i don t have it anymore,was from a friend,but it was not full of grease,and the mechanic was soft.

was the E in luger double stamped? i would think they would not do this at the factory.

In my humble opinion, the "9 mm Luger", the Waffenamt and the SS runes are all post-war additions.

The German military answer to differentiate the calibers was to put a large 9 in the stocks of the BH in 9mm caliber. In their haste to comply, a number of LP.08 pistols were so stamped even though their were never made in any other caliber.

i think they did make a 30 cal luger. from what i understand only red nine broomhandles where marked with the branded 9. but not the schnell. but i could be wrong

DWM did make a .30 caliber Luger, but it had nothing to do with the "Red 9". During WWI there were already some C96 Mausers in .30 Caliber in the field when the 9mm C96 was issued. This apparently led to some confusion as to caliber since they were not marked. A directive went out to mark those 9mm Mausers in the field with a red 9 in the stocks to identify the caliber. This was done by an armorer in the field, and either through being over zealous, or misinterpretation some of the LP.08 pistols were also so marked.

After that the 9mm military contract Mausers were so marked from the factory.

I believe the Schnellfeuer came along after WWI.

this is a very interesting thread about c96 mausers and snellfuhrers i agree with johnny peppers about the 9mm lugers in ww1 along with the c96 mausers that were stamped in the stocks with a red nine this makes sence to me what i cant understand about the snellfuhrers being a 7.63 30 call 1933-1935 the nine mm was well under way by that time but not used the only difference between the c96 mausers red nines and the 7.63 30 call snellfuhrers was the eagle swaz stamped on the left side of the brl i seen in the third reich model snellfuhrers was they stamped the eagle swaz on the left side of the brl by the breech also under the eagle was a u with crown so i have never heard of a snellfuhrer being a nine mm does any one else here ever heard or seen a snellfuhrer nine mm please let me know please dont confuse the fake marked nine mm with fake ss marks thanks god bless andy alfred213

i just wanted to add some more iformation to what johnny peppers said about the red 9 c96 broomstick mausers being marked and red lined the wood stocks one thing for sure there is a difference between a 7.63 cartridge is that it is a bottled neck cartridge compared to a 9mm cartridge which is not bottled necked there for with out marking the grips with a red nine this saved miss fires and possible injury to a soldiers hand hope all excepts this information and i believe it to be correct please inform me if i am wrong god bless andy alfred213

The Schnellfeuers were made in 9mm Para. A lot of 100 9mm guns were made on a contract for Yugoslavia and others were made from time to time. These were made with screw-in barrels. There are a few 9mm examples with known serial numbers but the serial of the gun in this thread was not revealed.
A close exmaination of the barrel would more than likely reveal that it is screwed in.
The mags had a filler at the front to position the shorter 9mm rounds.
The stamping is not period of production and is clearly added by a poorly equipped or careless gunsmith.
The gun in the thread could very well have orignally been manufactured in 9mm as nothiing about it in the pics appears to not be original except the stamping.
Nothing is said about the magazine, either.
