There was an all matching 38 at the sar show in phx dec ‘17 sitting along side a matching 40. The 40 was $27k and the 38 was $48k. I don’t know if they sold.

      Mp-38

All matching on a form 4? Good luck. $60,000.00, but you wont find one. Look at the difference in MP-38 and MP-40 production numbers. Vast gap.

It is the next FG42 and will explode beyond 60k very soon.

Just for reference, I have just sold my functional MP40 in original condition (non matching) and my functional all matching MP44 for roughly 10k €... Of course, in Europe

I just wonder how much I could have got for them in the US!

you have to add that live and full auto ones are restricted and available only in some countries like switzerland and luxembourg or belgium as collection guns. since 2018, even in semi-auto mode, they are prohibited in france

My observation from having pretty diligently watched the machine gun market here in the US for 20+ years: I've seen a LOT more FG42's for sale than MP38's! Just to be clear, I am referring to original WWII German military procured MP38's (known under US federal law as "Curios & Relics") and not MP38's created using original wartime parts built up into legally registered machine guns using post-war (but pre-May, 1986) manufactured receiver tubes.

Seriously . . . all you MG guys here in the US who watch the Boards, auctions, etc.; it does not take much reflection to realize how few and far between C&R MP38's are in coming up for public sale (while at the same time FG42's pretty regularly appear in the big auctions).

Also, we've all seen the photo from a certain collector in Ohio where he has 10 or more C&R FG's posed in front of his fireplace (the photo is in the "Death From Above" FG book). Well, has anyone out there seen a collection that has 10+ C&R MP38's here in the US? All I am aware of are situations where typically 1 MP38 is present in a small handful of "big" collections. I do know a guy who once had 2 MP38's at the same time c. early 2000's. . . but he quickly sold the lesser condition one (for $25K in $100 bills cash sent to him by the buyer via a FedEx pouch), as he had bought the better conditioned one as an upgrade.

Any idea what the estimated production totals are for FG's and MP38's?

I have had the chance of buying an all matching deactivate MP38 for that figure just a few weeks ago, but I don't collect deactivate weapons.
BTW, it was deactivated as per the new EU rules

Do you need them live or deactivated? And which country? Might be able to help.

Production of the MP38 is estimated at between 41000 and 52000 depending on who you ask, and production of the fg42 is estimated between 7000 and 9000. Initially, this would make the fg42 much rarer, but initial production numbers do not directly translate to survival rates, especially in the US market where supply is largely based on what the veterans found interesting enough to drag back across the ocean, or what importers thought would sell fastest in the immediate postwar era when many of these nuances were not fully understood or appreciated. So while the mp38 is definitely more “common” it is entirely possible that the FG42 would be more available in the US market.

May I assume that yours were in full auto condition?
Did you sell them within Luxembourg borders or did you export them to other EU country?
