Wow, Bill. Very nice Oberndorf rifle. That is a LATE one, I like the svw triggerguard. I didn't even know Kriegs checkered buttplates existed!

Do you have the time/capabilities to take a pic thro the optics?

                          Many Thanks

Beautiful rifle Bill. In your opinion how many of these turret rifles were issued with checkered buttplates?

                              Hi Bill,

                              beautiful item.

If you would be so kind as to indulge my (utter) beginners questions further, why were the buttplates checkered?

Looking forward to learning and seeing more,

                              Patrick.

                                butt plate

J, and Patrick, To answer two questions with one post,, I have seen the checkered butt plate on other turret mount snipers, but I feel that it was a supply and demand thing/problem as I have seen other turret mt. rifles with cammo painted butt plates with three letter codes and waffen amts, I have others and one has a Green cammo painted butt plate dated 1944 with waffen amts and also copper plated for some reason........The checkered butt plate was to "bite" in to the shoulder of the sniper for better 'traction'... I will post other snipers in the future..Glad everyone is enjoying, as Patrick can astest this stuff never see daylight and I am pleased to share the collection with this forum by the magic of a computer...BILL
