Hi,
S/42 is the code for the Mauser factory Obendorf. The date of manufacture is 1939. In the US price for one like this is between $400-$500 and will sell to someone wanting to shoot or reenact. Most of the minor parts on the Russian capture rifles are a mix of parts so not really a collector grade piece.

S/42 is the ordnance code for the maker, Mauser. I am sure you might find it in some Kar 98k maker's list in the internet:
