Colt .45 Single Action Army

This is for sale locally and I'm wondering what a fair price for it might be. It's supposed to be a matching numbers 1st generation gun. I'm presuming it was blued when new so it looks like it's worn off completely. If anybody can give me an idea of what it's worth I'd appreciate it.

Your description and those two pics are way too vague.
I'd advise close up pics, and provide the serial number and caliber.
Then post it all on coltforum.com.

You need to show a photo of the serial number . . . that will help nail down an identification of the pistol and value.

The serial number should be in the locations show nin this photo.

You also need to show a photo of the marking on the left side of the pistol's frame . . . i.e. a view similar to reflected in this photo.

I do realize what's needed to properly identify it but that's all I have at the moment, more picture to follow when i get them. It's .45 caliber and the serial is supposed to date to 1917.

This example is from the black powder era so shooting it would be a limited proposition. I see Colt SAAs in this condition all the time at gun shows in the $2,000 ASKING range but it's rare to one sell. I'd say a fair price is between $1,000 and $1,500 without doing a hands on examination. Colt SAAs with a lot of original finish, factory engraved or with a solid provenance to some notable person will bring a lot more!

17100 seems like a low number to me. But, it has bake-lite grips?

I apologize for any confusion I have created . . Colt SAA #17107 is a U.S. military issued example from my collection . . it is not the gun that started the thread. I was merely using my own photos to try to help illustrate the markings/data that are needed in order to evaluate the gun at issue in this thread. No serial number has been provided for the SAA at issue.

correct, the seller says it dates to 1917 but I'll have to wait for the better pictures to verify that, should have some better pictures today

In the condition shown, and assuming it is all matching with no mechanical issues, it would sell for between 1,800 and 2,250 bucks in my area. Certain places can get more for them than we can out here.
