    M1 carbine Paratrooper question

I recently inspected a carbine a friend has just bought, a paratrooper carbine and the butt plate had no numbers. I thought they all had numbers. He says he sees the numbers there but they are faint (I think the guy that sold it to him pointed them out to him). I don't want to see him get screwed. the carbine in the stock was a blue sky import but I'm not certain the friend understands the significance and value of a blue sky.At least the butt plate looks old, but did they make unnumbered ones? anyways, help would be appreciated.

Hard to tell from that photo; they all should have numbers cast into them.

From that one pic, I would say not a good buttplate.

I think I see the number and the wheel impression but again, too weak to tell from this photo.

          Carbine buttplate

Here's the butt plate turned sideways so you can read it better. clearly you can see what looks like the outline of a 2 and the asterisk or star, but the star looks convex rather than concave. Does anyone have an original one that looks like this? could this be a crude cast from an original?

And also a original for comparison.
