Status of DOD Transfer of M1911's to CMP?

Does anyone know what the current factual/legal status is of the long-awaited transfer by DOD of its remaining surplus M1911 pistols to the Civilian Marksmanship Program? I thought this was already law by virtue of a defense appropriations bill signed by President Obama about 2 years ago (with the only remaining approval needed being an administrative sign-off by someone within the Department of Defense . . . . something we all know was NOT going to happen under the Obama Administration).

I've recently seen CMP press releases talking about what they would do with the pistols, if transferred/released to them for sale.

I've also heard conflicting stories that the necessary sale/release legislation has never been passed by Congress (i.e. that the Obama-era legislation was insufficient and/or was repealed by other legislation; etc.).

Now, today, I see a Fox News article that claims we are waiting on President Trump to sign the necessary legislation into law (i.e. implying that all necessary Congressional action has already taken place).

So . . . does anyone know where the issue currently stands? Exactly what actions need to be taken by the Executive and/or Legislative Branches of the US government in order to make the surplus 1911 pistol sales happen?

I'm sure most of it is just media buzz and hysteria...

It's the first time in a while that any new stock is coming through CMP, they're not a finely tuned machine by any means and it seems like they haven't received the stock yet.

Based on everything I've seen, it already sounds like a big disappointment with how this is going to roll out...

It is my understanding that you will have to jump through more hoops than you do for a Garand and that these 1911 mixmasters will be around $1,000.

It will also be a lottery on who and when you get to choose your purchase. First 10,000 people to get there request submitted. Your choices will also only be out of what is currently available at the time your number is drawn.

It will also require two background checks and will have to shipped to an FFL. No in store or online purchases either.

So if you get lucky and get in on the first 10k. You get your number drawn and they might only have rack grade pistols available at that time.

This is a March 1962 DCM Sales pistol. Late June/July 1945 manufacture Remington Rand Model 1911A1 as new in the original shipping box with two magazines in factory wrap. $17.50 at the time, shipped to you by Railway Express.

          Times have changed.

The good old days of gun collecting and ownership are over, we are under barrage from a freedom hating elitist media and, make no mistake, a political system that is ready to remove our rights to own firearms. Trump's presidency merely buys us time.
Here in CT we are pretty much down to cowboy guns.
            Nice piece there Johnny!

Nice piece. $17.50 in 1962 is the equivalent of $139 in 2016...

I will offer 139.01 for it. Just because.. well no one else seems to want it and I will give it a good home.

All of the 2.44M RRs must have been surplus and sold through the DCM. I know someone with two of them.

Well . . . I never obtained any clarification as to what Executive and/or Legislative Branch action was needed on the CMP 1911 deal. I have, however, just been made aware of a CMP update that reports that whatever legal steps were needed have now been completed, so that CMP is now in possession of 8,000 of the 1911/1911A1 style pistols. Here is a link to the CMP's official site, if you want to review their description of the situation.
