    Which pistol ???

As my passion is for German pistols, which one would be the best for shooting today with regard to accuracy and reliability (assuming an excellent condition) - the P08 or the P38??? Any other pistols come close - C96 or others?

    Thanks,
    Eric

Are you primarily interested in a large SLP? or are you considering any wartime German pistol?

If you are just looking at larger SLPs, then the choice is an easy one. The P38 is very accurate, and by far the most reliable of these. The Luger and Mauser C96 are both very accurate, but are overly complicated pistols, and therefore aren't totally reliable.

If you don't care about caliber, then there are several very good small SLPs that were made during the war. These include: the Sauer 38, Walther PP, Walther PPk, Mauser 1934, and Mauser HSc, as well as many others!!
These are all very accurate pistols, and all are very reliable as well.
I would personally choose the Sauer 38, or Walther PP, as the top two of these small SLPs though.

          Whuch Pistol?

Thanks for the replies guys. The reason I ask is that I am planning on buying one later this year (holidays have to be paid for first as per "she who must be obeyed"). It will be used for target shooting so must be accurate. While my main interest is in the P08 and P38, I'm not sure the C96 would be suitable. Then again I'm torn between wanting to shoot a WW2 German pistol but then worrying about "ruining it" by putting a couple of hundred rounds through it every weekend - would I be better going for a modern pistol? If so, any recommendations welcomed.

          Thanks,
          Eric

Hi, maybe you should take a Browning GP, i used to have one and fired at least every week about 50 rounds with, never any problem and spare parts like firing-pin, extractor, spring...etc, are less expansive then P38 and P08 parts and much easier to purchase.
And..it's a very smooth and reliable shooter! imo for shooting that much it would be better to buy a new gun.
            Regards, David.
