G33/40 - info wanted

Just a few questions:

I believe the 42 models were lacquered such as this?
The plate on the underside feels plastic. This possible? (1st pic)

Floor plate is almost for sure steel, a magnet will tell you in an instant! Some post war commercial rifles had (have) these made from alloy....and maybe now even synthetic material like all the junk made in the last 30 years......but this one on your rifle looks correct.

I know nothing of the Germans factory lacquering rifle stocks for any variation or year. This one looks possibly re-blued, although I can not say for sure from the photos. These 33/40s tended to be be finished (polished metal for instance) to a very high standard even into the later ones made.

Stock should have the serial number on the belly. The crispness of that number stamp will tell you much.

Ahh. The magnet trick. Duh. The plate is indeed Metal.

So it’s been refurbished post war. It does have matching numbers!

Any idea the value?

I would say somewhere between $1000 and $1500 without the rod and sight hood (but with the org sling), with the org rod and sight hood probably 2K at least even refinished.

Stocks not badly sanded can be restored from a varnish, lacquer or shellac .....not easy to remove polyurathene......I hate that stuff! Metal polish does not seem too bad.......all that said I would take a bolt MM with original blue ANY day over a post period of use reblued rifle.
