Wow...i did not expect that such a cover is rare, i bought mine on a local gun show about 15 years ago. I found it between leather stuff and could buy it for small money, i think the guy did not know what it is.
But i never saw a pic where such a cover for the rear sight is in use.

                  Bill and Ostmark,

Your pictures are fantastic! I am glad somebody could share!!!

How were these issued out? Is there a TO&E page that states who got and used these? I have heard that they were issued to bicyclists and Motor Cyclists so their actions didn't get dirty. I have seen drawings of the rear sight covers used by snipers.Does anyone have any photos of either the receiver cover or sight cover being used?

How long were they manufactured and used for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Another member was looking for one. www.ostfront.com has the sight covers. They are reproduction. IMA sells WWI receiver covers. I hope that helps.

Fred, I have seen a picture of Luftwaffe Ground troops getting off of a Ju52 in N.Africa, and you can clearly see the action covers on the 98ks... I don't remember where I saw the pict....BILL

He just keeps finding things in his cellar.....tells me all the time that he hasn't been collecting for years....he better watch out though...their is a new kid on the block !

                          Hi Craig

Its true, i stopped collecting for 10 years now and sold very rare stuff
for little money. As there was no Internet, the stuff was sold in Austria,
and at this point of time the market value was low.
But i also kept things and sometimes they are appearing from my cellar to the daylight again

But i started collecting again when i found this site. I have to say it
makes me a happy men and i met a lot of nice guys here

Sorry for being off topic regarding to that thread ...
