Walter Mod 2 Trainer

Hi all,

After hours of looking at junk at a large flea market I found this guy. I am not familiars with the German trainer riffles beside looking it up quick. From what I have seen I believe it is a prewar model 1934. It's in great shape, and kind of neat in that it has the bull barrel and heaviness to mimic a standard riffle. No nazi stamps just the crowns. So just wanted to share my pickup and was also curious on what these go for as will add it to the insurance... seen some ridiculous prices like 1200+ but I would think it would be more like 600. Any thoughts? Else enjoy and good luck.

Too much sun produced basd shadows on the action and barrel. Appears to be the first style Walther Sportmodell and not a 1934 DSM variation. No place for a stacking rod and cant tell whether safety is round or lever style.

Thanks for the better photos. It is a Walther Sportmodell, but one of the later ones of their own design that they produced after the introduction of the DSM 1934 model which Walther also produced along with other manufacturers. All of these will be covered in detail in the new book on German trainers published by Robert Simpson and due for distribution next month sometime.

This one appears to have a rather big cut off the front of the stock, an incorrect barrel band and a different end cap installed. The serials went up to the 70000 range and started over with the suffix "w". Here is an image of one of my police accepted versions. It also appears the rear handguard holding piece is missing (fits under the front of the rear sight and keeps the handguard from jiggling around). I think the cut stock knocks off the price quite a bit as well as the lack of finish on the receiver. As a collectible piece, $600 might be pushing it.

Nice riffle and ok thank you very much. Oh well worst case it's a still neat addition to my collection, and perhaps I'll try to find some better examples.
