    Unknown holster

    Hello,

I recently obtained this holster. Although it seems the fabric is late-war German, I have not been able to find what kind of holster this actually is. It seems to have been used quite intensively, since the holster is very worn out. Do any of you guys have any clue?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've only once seen a simelar looking holster some 30 years ago in a private museum somewhere in the Ardennes. It was a "last ditch" cloth pistolholster, which fitted a P38. It had a spare magazin pouch in the same fabric on it like a leather holster, so this one is a little different. Does a P38 fit in this one?

Hello Ton. Thanks for your reply. I was thinking along the same lines, that it could be a last-ditch holster. It was found in an area that had been fought over in early 1945, so that would be plausable. I'm visiting a guy who has P38's next week, so I can fit one of them then.

I measured the dimensions of both the P38 and the Walther PP and compared it to the dimensions of the holster. The holster is too small to hold the P38, but the PP should fit like a glove!

Does the snap have any markings that would indicate German manufacture? Stocko or something like that? I have owned 45 dated leather holsters. I find it difficult to accept that that holsters of this type were "last-ditch" production. You write that it was found in an area that show combat in 1945. The holster was obviously not ground dug. So someone owned it? Who fought in that area? Any chance it might be post-war French Indo-China?

            Could it be field-made?
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

Looking at the markings on the back of the holster I would say Sauer 38 or Walther PP?

Hello JoeW. The holster was found in an old barn by my father, together with a German entrenching tool and a gasmask canister. In this area the most units that saw combat were Luftwaffe (Fallschirmjäger) or Heer, but also Kriegsmarine units saw action, for instance, as artillery units. As far as the Allies go, both American and British forces saw action here. Of course the holster could also be left there at a later point.

I have not been able to find any further markings, although the inside of the button seems to be stamped with a small 'W' or 'M', but it is not very clear (could also be one of the crimps that holds the button on the cloth). As far as size, I would also say Walther PP or Sauer 38, or a gun similar size. The cloth seems the same as other last ditch items, such as those late-war Kampfpistole Z ammunition belts.

Not very interesting marks in any case, if i remember correctly. It was a regular, empty, M38 gasmask canister.

Today I was at a friends place and tried to fit a EU deco Walther PP. It really fits like a glove and also matches the markings!
