1956 Dated Tokarev pistol assistance

Can anyone please advise which country would have used this Tokarev? No specific markings other than a 1956 date adjacent to the serial number. Grips may be only way to do so?

M-20 Chinese...

I'm thinking it's a Chinese M-20, a version of the Type 54 made without factory markings to conceal the weapon's origins. Many of these were provided to North Vietnamese forces during the Vietnam War.

A Vietnam war bring back in my opinion.
