The 98k sporter reworked

Greetings All,

Well, I have to say thanks to all that offered their help from my earlier post. Robert thanks for the stock. I found an eagle and swastika above an H over the bolt disc. The stock had very crisp marks on the inside and was dated 43 (same as the rifle ).

Now here is what I did:

(The stock was a red glue laminated one that was Russian Capture.)

I took easy off (yes I know a big no-no) and sprayed the stock.
Let it sit for 5 minutes.
Rubbed the living crap out of it.
Sprayed with water.
Towel dried and wipped again.
Allowed to dry for 1 week.
Lightly sanded (several gouges and dings removed and this is when I found the eagle and swastika).
Applied very light cherry stain (which made the glue really show great).
After another week of dry time I applied a coat of tongue oil.

The stock looks great and a local gunshop owner offered me 2x what I payed for it. I know that the method I used may not be the recomended proceedure but it worked nice for me. I will be posting pics hopefully this weekend. I know it doesn't look like a museum piece, but it's not one. I have replaced all the sporter ad ons. Still need a complete rear sight assembly to complete the project.

Im delighted the stock has been used for this project.... I really look forward to the pictures. Im going to a big show the first weekend in April and will try to find the last part you need, if you pick one up before let me know so I don't buy anything you already have!

Ps

Forgot to put this in the edit.

When I took it to the local shop all together, it was the talk of the shop. A fellow offered me nearly 3x what I have in her! Everyone thought the stock looked great and more like an original that had not been messed with. Several asked if I would redo their RC stocks for them. Let me know what you all think.
