    Help with K98's

Hello all, I am looking to pic up my first and only K-98. I don't know enough about these things to be cofortable purchasing from a show as my collecting intrests are uniforms and field gear. Does anyone know any dealers who are honest and trust worthy?? I would like a non-import non-russian, non-cut, non-messed with k98. I would also like a matching rifle but would settle for mostly matching. Any ideas on what I sould pay for this?? Any help would be appricated.
    THank you,

    THank you,
Study a lot books, on hand experience, ....OJT.... Or you will get burnt real quick there are so many screwed with 98ks and German rifles in general out there that it is a real shame. There is a dealer from FLA. putting them together by the armfulls, he was at SOS buying every spare part he could find to make up guns.... Don't settle for a missed matched one, it will always be a missed matched item and never keep up with the increasing value of a matched 98k..Shop around but expect to pay a hefty amount now. One of the forum members just sold a byf44 for big bucks you may want to pm him (Perry Floyd).... Go to some shows that some old timers are displaying their (NOT For SALE 98Ks) and learn......... Do a forum search as some members have shown some great 98Ks and other German rifles..BILL

If you haven't done so already make sure you read the excellent K98 article on this very page. It provides a good overview. If you want to really read up on K98s get the book Backbone of the Wehrmacht. It's excellent with comprehensive info and many good pictures also. Also go to dealers an look at what they've got. It may be no good K98s, but you get a feel for the rifle and markings. Then later you can hunt down a good K98k.

I waited and waited to find a good K98k, but nothing happened. Then suddenly I made a lot more progress than I had expected
