Hi all, im new to the forum but i had a few questions i thought you guys might be able to answer regarding my k98. I recently purchased one of those "RC" k98's for around $280. Its a 1937 S/27 w/ a walnut stock, all milled parts and a reasonable bore. I am attempting to bring it back to the look it would have had at that time, before the bolsheviks gooped all that foul shellac onto it and electro penciled everything...
So my first question is regarding what is supposed to be blued and what is not. I know the butt plate and the bolt dissasembly disc shouldn't be but what about the bolt? I have researched it and seen several photos of blued and unblued bolts so was this a pre-war thing? Also, if this is the case, should anything else be ''in the white''? im not sure what is the best way to remove the blueing without harming the metal is so any advice there would also help alot.
Also, i was wondering if there was anyway i could remove the electro pencil numbers? I dont want to take the angle grinder to them but it would be nice to be rid of them.
My last question concerns its cracked handguard. The crack runs about half the lenth of the handguard and is very unsightly . I was wondering what is the best way to fix this?
