MP 40 Tropical sling for review.

MP 40 Tropical sling for review.

Im not that familiar with these slings. I have only had the leather ones in the past. Would this be considered tropical only or were they used continental also . No other markings on the sling but the D&C on the metal buckle.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that these were used postwar by some other entity who was using captured MP-40's...I would post this in the field gear forum here as there are some great guys there like mp40tom for instance.

There is no evidence of wartime German made woven/fabric slings for MP40s. Must be post-war.

It is interesting to me that pics of fabric MP40 slings have been around for quite a few years but there doesn't seem to be any detailed history of who made them, identification of markings, when and where used, etc. It is easy to assume various explanations. The recent publication of the book "The Schmeisser Myth" condenses a lot of information but is very short on pics and information about slings, which is too bad. The variety of slings has been documented and I was hoping to find some more info in the new book.
Maybe someone will offer more details about them on this thread......

We find the D&C markings on the leather MP slings and If memory serves belt buckles also, No doubt German made.

Just search 'mp40 tropical sling' in the WAF search engine to see the old thread from 2005.
These may have been used late war but they are not a DAK item.

I agree more then likely not tropical just like the canteens with web gear but this sling screams late war to me. I have never seen a picture either or another like it but its just to difficult to me to say this is post war.

D&C is often marked on early war Mp 38 ü 40 slings. I don't like any webbing sling,

As the matter of fact, I just found a MP40 sling with D&C marks,
within a bunch of K98k slings.

Hardware can easily be taken from a leather sling and used to fabricate a canvas sling, so having hardware with the C&D marking doesn't confirm that a canvas sling was made at any particular time or by any particular organization. Easily could be of post-war manufacture with wartime hardware. FWIW
