Hi Bas, here is my new purchase. I went to a show at the weekend and a friend from our living history group made me an offer I could not refuse on purchasing his Maxim. It once sat in the same store as yours. But of course this one is cut.

It came with 6 ammo cans, several belts, (one fabric) cleaning kit and oil / solvent tins.

    Cheers, Ade.

        Nice one Ade!

Do you know what the story is with the cloth and metal belts? Most pictures I have seen of Maxims in action show them with the cloth belts. Any idea when they made the switch to the metal ones and would you happen to know a source for a cloth belt?

        Cheers

        Bas

Hi Bas, as I understand it, and I could be wrong , they changed to metal by "late war" which I would take as 1944 onwards? But I would prefer to see this in print from a manual and not just from word of mouth, so don't quote me.

Cloth belts seem very hard to find for some reason? I will keep an eye out for one for you. No dates on mine just some small inspection stamps. A couple of guys in the unit have them for when we do the classic Naval Infantry impression and wear them wrapped around the body.

          Cheers, Ade.

Should there be a third tin here? It would appear one would fit when placed correctly?

              Cheers, Ade.

Thanks for that Ade, nice pic too. Have you tried loading them? I found the metal link belts to be a royal pain in the ****, so I'll be keeping my out on a belt loader as well

                  Cheers

Maybe that's for the rubber hose? Mine seems to be missing that as well.

                        Ah... not thought of that?

I have only up to now seen repro brass fittings for the hose. Something else to buy

                        Cheers, Ade.

I was just surfing the net for Maxim's and wound up here, so I joined. My question is can you make copies of that manual. If so, what would it cost to send one to the United States? We might get approval sometime later this year to make a semi-auto version Maxim. I wish this was still the good old days when we could still import them fully operational at an affordable price.

Looking at entry 21, yes there should be another can in there.

Hi do you want a paper copy or would you be happy with .pdf scans? I got the pictures working again, my site crashed and the back-up that was restored was a little old. Took me a while to realise that not all the files were there

If you are still interested send me an email via my site.

                            Cheers

Hey,Bas,you wanna share some of your other Soviet stuff with the lads? I think the shots of your 1910 came out beautiful.I was a bit disappointed with the ones I took at the Ngapona show of your collection.

                                Service Manual

For those that were interested in a copy of the service book that came with my maxim, I uploaded a black and white .pdf copy of it here: http://www.gunpics.net/russian/maxim/book/manual.pdf

Dave, the lighting was really poor there so my pictures didn't come out very well either. I have posted other pictures in the past, and you can always go to my site for more.

                                Cheers
