1916 Efurt KAR98

hello all I picked this up from a coworker this past week. I belonged to his wife's Grandpa. I know very little about these but was told by a friend it is a KAR98AZ. Thought I would post to get a bit more information. It has a terrible sporterised stock. I even think it is a homemade stock. Bore is very crisp and very dirty with that old looking "varnish" that I see on older guns.
Here is the particulars. Oh yea, AS far as I can see it is all matching.

Is the stock not correct to this K98a?

It looks like it was a stock made to look like a sporting rifle. It is old and been on the rifle a good long while as you can see from the stock shown in the photos. The only thing from the original stock is the front band.

TO bad about the cross. It will not be easy to find a original one.
